Here is an example of the benefit of using the Nikon NEF Pluggin over PS2's Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
Here is the nef file coming straight into CS2 but through Adobe Camera Raw
first.. The file was reduced in size
and converted to a jpg in CS2.Notice the horrible yellow tint. Yes, I should
have been able to figure out how to configure ACR to match the Nikon Nef pluggin.
But I simply could not. So, rather than continue to pull out hair, I simply
use the Nikon Nef pluggin when I get these bizarre results.
Here is the same shot pulled up into CS2 with the Nikon Nef puggin
overriding ACR pluggin. The horrible yellow tint is gone.
Here is the same file, only converted to JPG in Nikon View before pulling it
into CS2 with ACR.
ACR appears to be working wonderfully with MANY of my NEF files but not those taken in this particular gymnasium. ACR tells me the temp is about 3,350. So, it would appear to me that I am having trouble with low temp nef files. Any suggestions on how I get rid of the yellow tint?
Update: I am now finding that the default settings of ACR has a tendency to blow out highlights of my shots. So, some manual tweaking is involved using ACR that is simply not necessary using the Nikon Nef pluggin.
I have sent the nef file to a friend who is not a Nikon person. In addition, he uses a Mac. He gets the identical results. So, this is not a problem of some Nikon bug installed into CS2.
Update: November 20, 2005
Here is a shot pulled up with ACR

The acr shot needs some tweaking.
